About us
The Institute of Environment and Marine Science Research (IMEDMAR ) was created in 2006 to integrate the marine research carried out in the School of “Veterinaria y Ciencias Experimentales” of the “Universidad Católica de Valencia SVM”. Its activity focuses on research in oceanography and marine resources.
The main objective of the Institute is describing the marine environment for an appropriate coastal management. We also search for new tools and proposals to monitor the marine environmental quality. Our goal is to achieve its rational and sustainable use as a place for human and environment coexistence.
The Institute is located in Calpe’s old fish market. Calpe is a traditional fishing village, now mainly devoted to tourism, situated at the foot of the Peñon de Ifach Natural Park. Its history runs back to the iberians and romans who settled colonies for marine trade and fish factories. Some remains are still observable in The Queen’s Bath
